Excuse the pun, but the start of Spring has been an exciting time for Shine and we wanted to shout about it!
This last month has been a very busy one (and you might want to sit down for this); we collected our Small Business Award and met Theo Paphitis, we were interviewed by West Lothian News, we celebrated International Women's Day, World Book Day and Neurodiversity Celebration week, we had a wonderful school visit AND had a brief but very exciting chat with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on Heart Breakfast! Maybe it's time I got an agent....
Through all of these various events and interviews, we have had so many wonderful messages, new website subscribers, lovely reviews and orders, and couldn't be happier that Shine's fanbase is growing! Getting our interview on Heart FM came at the perfect time and being able to chat about the importance of having inclusive books and representable characters during Neurodiversity Celebration week was fantastic.
From a business point of view, meeting Theo and a whole host of successful entrepreneurs was both surreal and inspiring, and there are some exciting plans in the pipeline which we hope will make Shine even bigger and better...
From a personal point of view, this month has been a very special one; on our school visit the children were openly chatting about neurodiversity and proudly sharing their differences (which is a huge step forward in society). If you follow us on social media you will have seen that after World Book Day, we were sent a picture of a child who had dressed up as one of OUR characters... and I'll be honest, I'm not sure there's a better feeling! Seeing children embrace who they are is why Shine Books began in the first place, and we couldn't be prouder to see the impact they are starting to have.
So what next? We have some exciting meetings in the diary (watch this space), a couple of podcasts coming up, and 2nd April is not only International Children's Book Day but also Autism Awareness Day so make sure you're following us @theshinebooks for updates.....
